Info can be harvested from a variety of places: Twitter, Flickr, Google Maps, YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Wikipedia, SoundCloud and more. Simply organize your data into a google spreadsheet, upload to the Timeline generator, and embed on your website. Seems easy enough!
